captioning software. We also have been operating a closed captioning
and subtitling service for the past 17 years. In addition, we

Job Description
We
are seeking a person with
-
a
minimum of 3 yrs of hands-on experience with software/hardware
-
a
very good knowledge of Windows
-
a
good knowledge of Apple OS X (not required, but a plus)
-
some
experience in the video field (particularly digital video)
Job
responsibilities will include
Our
captioning software works with many digital video formats. We need
someone who is familiar (or can quickly learn) digital video formats
and figure out how to interface them to our captioning software. For
example, figure out how cross platform Quicktime files on the Mac
and PC can work with our captioning software.
You
need to know how our software works inside out, and how it
interfaces to various captioning hardware in order to provide
technical support to our users. Good verbal communication skills and
smarts are needed because customers do not always accurately
describe their technical problems. This means that you must often
figure out what they are trying to tell you, even though they may
not be giving you an accurate description of what their problem is.
You must enjoy working with computer software and can’t fake it
here.
Describe
how our software works to potential customers that call us. You will
educate the customer about closed captioning and how CPC software
can solve their captioning needs. No cold calls, no hard selling,
just educating.
You
will also provide technical support within our company to co-workers
with less technical knowledge than you. The support will consist of
both help with how CPC software and related hardware work, and with
basic problems they may have with using Windows or Word.
We
currently use ACT (it is easy to learn in case you are not familiar
with it) and Quickbooks. When a sale is made you need to check the
customer’s record to make sure the customer is assigned a customer
number, that the items they purchased are recorded in their record,
that any items that will be drop-shipped are billed to the customer,
etc. For potential customers to whom proposals have been sent, you
need to follow up and call them so that they are not lost to us.
In
Summary
The ideal candidate would be a quick
learner, self-motivated, flexible and able to juggle multiple tasks.
We give employees responsibility, and trust them to use their own
judgment as to how to most efficiently and effectively carry out
their assignments.
We
prefer to give minimal supervision, as the people that thrive at CPC
are the ones who have the personal responsibility, brains, and
dedication to carry out their assignments on their own. If you are
this type of person, you will really enjoy working for CPC.
Since
the company is small, and we are at the cutting edge of captioning
technology, we are often working on new projects. If you like
