How to Turn Captions on Windows Media Player

  • Windows Media Player 10 & 11
  • Windows Media Player 9
  • Windows Media Player 7 & 8
  • Windows Media Player 6.4

    10 & 11
    To enable captions in the Windows Media Player 10 & 11 menu, you have make sure to set the following:

    1. Play > Captions and Subtitle > English
    2. Tools > Option > Security > Show local caption when present as below.



    Windows Media Player 9
    To enable captions in the Windows Media Player 9 menu:

    Play » Captions and Subtitles » On if available

    1. From the Windows Media player menu, Choose 'Play'
    2. Choose the 'Captions and Subtitles' menu
    3. Select 'On if Available'

    Enabliing Captions in Windows Media Player version 9

    Windows Media Player 7 & 8
    To enable captions in the Windows Media Player 7 menu:

        View » Now Playing Tools » Captions
    1. From the Windows Media player menu, Choose 'View'
    2. Now Playing Tools (includes Equalizer, captions, visualizations)
    3. Select Captions. Make sure 'Show Equalizer and settings' is also selected

    Enabliing Captions in Windows Media Player version 7

    Windows Media Player 6.4
    Older systems, especially windows 98, may still have Windows Media player 6.4 installed. To enable captions in the Windows Media Player 6.4 menu:
        View » Captions
    1. From the Windows Media player menu, Choose 'View'
    2. Now, pick 'Captions', and the option will become enabled.
    3. The captions for presentations will appear in the area labelled 3, in Screenshot 5 below.
