Live Webcast
Captioning (Windows Media Player) Accurate, Easy
& Affordable
Realtime
captioning of webcasts just got easier and better – for both
the viewer and the provider.
Up
until now, for live webcasting, captions and video were sent via
different streams. Since
video streaming requires a lot of bandwidth, while text
streaming requires almost no bandwidth, captions are transmitted
much faster than video.
The
Realtime Webcast Captioning Solution
The CPC solution is the first and only realtime webcast captioning
solution, which inserts caption text directly into the web audio/video
stream. Because the video,
audio and captions are broadcast together in a single stream, the
captions and audio remain in synch, no matter what the speed of the
internet connection of the Web Browser computer. This is the key to
the whole system.
This
breakthrough allows caption/spoken dialogue synchronization within 2-3
seconds, exactly the same as that of television broadcasts.
With
other realtime webcast captioning systems, captions could appear up to
10 seconds before or after the words are spoken, depending on the
speed of the connection. Imagine trying to understand a subtitled
movie in which the subtitles appear 10 seconds before or after the
actors speak their lines. It would be very frustrating at the least.
How
Does it Work?
CPC’s realtime
webcasting software works in exactly the same way as broadcast
video is captioned today, with two components: a Caption Entry System,
and a caption Encoder.
The
Caption Entry Software
The Realtime
Caption Entry Software is simple to use, and can accept input from
almost any steno writer hardware and any steno writing software, or
from speech recognition software.
The Caption Entry Software can be used from anywhere in the
world, regardless of the origination point of the video webcast.
As in traditional live television broadcasts, the captioner
listens to the broadcast on site or live over a telephone, and enters
the text into the Caption Entry software. The text is then immediately
sent over the internet to the caption Encoder.
The
Encoder Software
The Encoder
Software runs on the same computer that is used to broadcast video and
audio onto the Web, called the Video Web Broadcast Server.
As the encoder receives captions from the Caption Entry
Software, the captions are inserted into the video, as is the case
with traditional live TV broadcast captioning.
It is important to note that the captions are not sent in a
separate stream, nor are they sent along with the video, they are
inserted directly into the video stream, just like conventional
TV captioning.
CPC’s
unique technique to add PowerPoint slides to any live event makes it a
full featured live presentation system. Since the PowerPoint slides
are computer images, they are extremely clear. You can see all the
details. In conventional webcasting, PowerPoint images are converted
to video and replace the video of the presenter. You can not see both.
With CPC’s technology, you can see the presenter and the slides –
both at the same time.
Convert
Live Webcast to Video-on-Demand Automatically
While
the live event is in progress, CPC saves the video with the captions
and the links to the PowerPoint slides on the hard drive of your video
server computer. After the live event is over, you can simply take the
video and put it on the web for people who want to see the video later
on at their convenience. You do not have to do the work twice.
In
the live webcast, all the PowerPoint slides are displayed at the
bottom of the screen. When the live webcast is converted to
video-on-demand, you get one additional feature. With the
video-on-demand you can randomly access the video by clicking on the
PowerPoint slides and jump to the corresponding location on the
video.
Automatically
Captions a Webcast Version of a Live Captioned TV Broadcast
– No Labor Required!
By adding a simple
caption retrieval device, and an inexpensive video capture device, you
can simultaneously broadcast all of your live captioned television
broadcasts on the web, as captioned webcasts, with no added
manpower.
Instead of using a
webcam to broadcast your video, connect your live captioned video
stream to a video capture device and broadcast the captured video over
the web as it is being broadcast live on television.
Run the video through a caption retrieval device before it goes
to the video capture device. Connect
a serial cable from a caption retrieval device to your computer.
From the Caption Entry software, select Retrieve Caption
option, and press start. Voila! The
Caption Entry software will automatically pull the captions from your
already captioned live video stream, and will insert them directly
into your simultaneous live webcast!
Caption
Webcasts From an Existing Script
For those times
when you already have a script for your event, there’s no need to
hire a stenographer. With
the CPC-800 Caption Entry software, you can open a text file and use
relatively unskilled labor to send out your text one line at a time.
In addition, we understand that not everything always goes
according to plan, which is why you can easily edit your text before
sending it out, and quickly switch between script mode and live
mode.
